Well hello! I’m Lyndsay, and welcome to A Little Hint of This! I’d love to share a bit more about who I am with you, and why I have decided to create this venue to share my back-to-basics journey towards creating a more harmonious home!
Growing up simply
I was born and raised in beautiful small-town Ontario, Canada. My mother is a red-headed farm girl and my father is a nature-lover from the big city. I am one of five children. My parents raised me to appreciate the simple lessons from generations before us. Insta-worthy concepts like reducing single-use plastics, living within our means, hanging laundry on the line outside, and getting into nature were all instilled in us from birth. These lessons have proved invaluable during my journey to create the best environment I can for my own family.
The kids…
I am a busy mother to 3 lovely monkeys children. I have 2 sons and a daughter. They keep me on my toes from before sun up to after sun down. At times I find myself absolutely exhausted by the demands of parenting, and yet I am always in awe of these humans who are so full of love and joy and chaos. They are my motivation to keep trying to do my best (my best being a little different every day!).
Managing work inside and outside the home
I am a working mom (really, what mom isn’t?!). Specifically, I work part time outside the home as a substitute secondary school teacher. I love, love, love my job! I love thinking on my feet, with every hour (heck, every minute!) being a new adventure. The energy (and laughs) that adolescents bring into the classroom is so invigorating! They have so much to offer – so many ideas and inspiration for this world! Idealism at it’s best!
My teaching job also allows me the time and freedom to balance being available for my children with having an income, even if it isn’t a big one. It works so well for our family, so I’m sticking with it! What I give up in financial security (ie a full-time job) I gain in freedom (staying home with sick kids/tired kids etc). It also opens my eyes to the challenges faced by both stay-at-home moms and working mothers.
Why I started this blog
I love to create, and I love to write. Since I was a young child I would develop ways to create a more harmonious home, whether that be through a home-cooked meal, helping my 3 younger siblings with bedtime routines or homework, or developing new routines for my own day. This has naturally transferred into how I now raise my own family.
I am a health-oriented Momma, and work hard to provide my family with whole foods and homemade meals as often as possible. This doesn’t mean we don’t open the occasional box of mac ‘n cheese, but I find that strategies such as meal planning help keep meals more wholesome and varied!
I am a budget-minded Mom. We worked very hard and sacrificed so that we could pay off over $30000 in debt in only 10 months! We now live within our means and are debt-free! This blog will explain exactly how we did it, so you can begin to chip away at your own financial burdens!
I am a diy Mom. I love to build and create new things! Cross-stitched stockings for Christmas, homemade body butter, or items to help organize my kitchen, you will find me creating something new for our home all the time. It saves money, and I get bragging rights…so it’s a win win!!
I have been living this way for for as long as can remember. People began asking me for hints and tips for how I manage things in my home. I have decided to write it all down (with pictures!) so that I can share my back-to-basics ideas and hints with you. Explore my site, and take what you need from it. Maybe it will help infuse more healthy eating into your mealtimes. Perhaps it will inspire creative handmade projects for your home, or provide ideas to help relieve financial stress. My hope is that one way or another, these hints will help harmonize your family life one moment at a time!
