- 6 lb Cortland apples
- ½-¾ tbsp ground cinnamon
- ⅔ cup water
Wash, peel, core, and chop apples into uniform-sized pieces.
In a large pot on medium heat, stir together apples, cinnamon, and water. Heat until water comes to a gentle simmer. Reduce heat to low.
Cover and cook applesauce, stirring occasionally, and pressing softened apples with the back of a wooden spoon to create desired applesauce texture. This should take approx. 45 minutes.
Remove from heat and cool to room temperature before storing in fridge or freezer.
Applesauce is a great way to use up bruised or older apples.
The darkness of the applesauce will depend on the amount of cinnamon you add. If you like a very light applesauce, reduce the amount of cinnamon used.
Applesauce may be pureed with an immersion blender, if desired, to create a smoother consistency.
Applesauce may be stored in the fridge for approx. 7-10 days, or in the freezer for approx. 3 months.
