French Toast

This is the best French Toast recipe! Perfectly decadent, crispy outside and fluffy inside. Serve with maple syrup and berries for an indulgent breakfast or brunch.

Ingredients

  • 8-10 thick slices egg bread
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup 2% milk
  • ½ cup 18% table cream *can substitute half and half
  • 2 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 pinch fine sea salt
  • butter, for cooking
  • maple syrup, for serving

Instructions

  • Preheat skillet or griddle over medium heat.
    In shallow baking pan, wisk together eggs, milk, and cream.
  • Add vanilla, maple syrup, salt, and cinnamon, whisking to combine.
  • Melt butter in preheated skillet. Dip bread, one slice at a time, into egg mixture. Let sit for approx. 10 seconds before flipping with a fork. Soak other side for an additional 10 seconds before transferring to the hot skillet.
  • Fry french toast until browned and toasted on each side, flipping once. Serve with maple syrup or topping of your choice.

Notes

If you're making a big batch, keep french toast warm on a baking sheet in oven (preheated to 200 degrees) until ready to serve.
Egg bread can be substituted with brioche or any other bread you choose. Thinner bread will yield more servings and will be dipped in the egg mixture for a shorter time.
Leftover french toast can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge or freezer. To reheat, simply pop french toast in the toaster!
Leftover custard mixture can be stored in the fridge for up to 4 days. To use, simply remove from fridge and dip bread as recipe states.
